Course Description

This qualification is for people who want to work as an early childhood educator in a centre-based service and family day care. You will be able to facilitate play and ensure children’s health and safety while supporting their learning and wellbeing. Queensland Academy of Technology partners with some of the best early childhood education and care services in the industry to give you practical, on-the-job training and industry-relevant experience before you graduate.

Course Duration and Study Options

  • 50 Weeks (2 Days per week);
  • 120 hours work placement

Entry Requirements

  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent* (No band below 5.0)
  • Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent in the student’s home country)*
  • Students who have not completed high school must have relevant work experience or a qualification that indicate a likely success of course completion.

*Alternatively, students are required to take a pre-test before enrolment.

Assessments

Skills and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you study at the Queensland Academy of Technology, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback.

You can choose to package this course with the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care for a shorter duration and less cost of the combined programs. Contact us to find out more!

Qualification Units

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 18 units of competency. A requirement of this course is that students undertake a mandatory industry placement. Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts. You are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.

**Prior to work placement you are required to apply for a blue card (working with children check).
