Where to go? What to do?

As a newcomer, you are probably wondering what you can do on the weekends and during your spare time. QAT has a wide range of student activities for you to join during the week.

Luckily our beautiful riverside city is not short of landmarks where you can spend the weekend sightseeing or hanging out with friends for a picnic or BBQ. As a culture and art capital, the city also has a vast variety of events and activities for local residents and international visitors all year round.

Southbank

One of the most popular landmarks in Brisbane by both local residents and international visitors. There is always so much to do and see, you can easily spend a whole weekend here exploring all the cool places and most of them are free of entry!

  • Artificial Beach – Lie down relax and sunbathe on our artificial beach while appreciating the stunning views of Brisbane CBD.
  • Wheel of Brisbane - Enjoying a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Brisbane city in the sky.
  • State Library - Chill in the state library for the books, comfortable self-study areas, computers with free internet access or just to hang around with friends for a good chat.
  • Goma - Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art – Appreciate art exhibitions from across the Asia-pacific oceans.
  • Museum - Check out the lost creatures and learn about Queensland’s natural history and heritage at Queensland Museum. It is fun and educational!

Kangaroo Point

One of the oldest suburbs in Brisbane, Kangaroo Point is situated just above the water which makes it a fantastic lookout spot. It is also very popular for rock climbers and abseilers.

  • Kangaroo Point Cliff – have a BBQ party at one of Kangaroo Point Cliff parks while taking in the river city’s stunning views.
  • Story Bridge – Climbing Brisbane’s iconic bridge during the day or dine in one of the riverside restaurants for a breathtaking view and unforgettable experience at night.

Brisbane CBD

With Brisbane’s rapid development, this beautiful river city has been extremely desirable to international tourists, investors and students.

  • Queen Street Mall – From international brands to local designers, this is indeed one of the best shopping districts in Brisbane.
  • King George Square and City Hall – The City Hall is a popular place chosen by visitors. While it lights up at night it would make a perfect candidate photo for your social media.
  • City Hop along the Brisbane River – Take a free ride along the Brisbane River with Brisbane City Hopper ferry or Kayak along the river on a beautiful sunny day.
  • Eagle Street Pier – Located in the heart of the city, the riverside is the perfect spot for a walk, cycle and dine.
  • Roma Street Parkland – This inner-city park is open to the public 24 hours a day and there are always free events on all year round.
  • Botanic Gardens – Have a picnic at this riverside city botanic garden and immers in the beautiful nature.

Mt Coot-tha

A must visit lookout for all visitors in Brisbane where you will be able to take in the beautiful and spectacular view of the entire city day or night.

Home to authentic Chinese and Asian food places, shops and grocery stores. There is a range of diverse food options including Chinese, Hong Kong style, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese cuisines.
